PALAIA, THIS HIDDEN GEM
Our history
USIGLIANO DI PALAIA DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR

During the Second World War, the area of Usigliano di Palaia held significant strategic importance from a military perspective.
Thanks to its elevated position, it represented one of the highest points in the area, offering a panoramic view over the Pisan plain, from the Apennines all the way to the sea. This location made it ideal for territorial control and, unfortunately, for artillery operations, such as the shelling of the surrounding areas.

Its history, closely tied to those years, is clearly evidenced by the discoveries that can still be found among our vineyards. Even today, it is not uncommon to come across wartime relics in the estate’s vineyards. Among these, objects such as ammunition boxes, bomb fuses, and other remnants linked to the clashes that took place during the conflict have been uncovered.
These findings tell a story of war and resistance, leaving a tangible mark on the collective memory of the land of Usigliano.
